At least two of the 14 members of the Parliamentary Investigation Commission (PUK) for the CS emergency merger were not re-elected on Sunday. They will be replaced by new members at the start of the legislative period in early December. This was announced by the Parliamentary Services in response to a request from the news agency Keystone-SDA. Neither National Councilor Roland Fischer (GLP / LU) nor Philippe Bauer (FDP / NE) were re-elected. The PUK President, Isabelle Chassot (Mitte / FR), will go into a second round of voting on November 12th. According to the Parliamentary Services, the FDP and GLP factions will make a proposal as to who should take the place of the non-reelected members of the PUK. The members of the Commission are elected by the respective office. If Chassot is not re-elected, the Coordination Conference - the office of the National Council and the office of the Council of States - will determine her successor as PUK President. The mutations would have no effect on the organization of the PUK, the Parliamentary Services wrote. "Currently, no significant delays are expected." The PUK previously planned that the investigations would last at least until the beginning of the next spring session, i.e. until around early March 2024.
The PUK for the CS crisis is examining the period from 2015 to the completion of the emergency merger of CS with UBS. The task of the PUK is to examine the management of the authorities relevant to the emergency merger for legality, expediency and effectiveness and to submit the results of its investigations to Parliament in a report. The PUK will evaluate relevant documents and conduct hearings. On its list it has representatives of the Federal Council, the Financial Department, the Financial Market Supervisory Authority (FINMA) and the Swiss National Bank (SNB). The PUK does not give any further details due to the obligation of secrecy.
