Retour au fil d'actualité

In December, it rained more than twice as much as usual throughout Switzerland. Locally, up to three times as much precipitation fell. According to the private weather service Meteonews, temperatures were also well above average due to a mild second half of the month. There were frequent storms in the mountains.

The large amounts of precipitation led to a tense flood situation, particularly in the north. According to Meteonews on Wednesday, the greatest excess rainfall was measured in Graubünden and the Fribourg-Bern border region. In north-western Switzerland and Ticino, it was slightly too dry in some areas.

Until mid-December, temperatures were still in line with the average, the report continued. However, after very mild Christmas days, Switzerland now has a temperature surplus of 1.5 degrees.

Stormy winds also characterized December. There were over ten days with storms in the mountains, wrote Meteonews. The strongest gust of 184 kilometers per hour was measured on the Gornergrat VS.
