Defence Lawyer Requests New Expert Reports at the Supreme Court of Zurich

The defense lawyer of the 24-year-old accused in the trial for multiple attempted murder before the Zurich Supreme Court has requested new expert opinions. She criticized the existing ones as insufficient and inadequate in terms of content and form.

The psychiatric expert diagnosed the accused with paranoid schizophrenia. The young man is in pre-trial detention. In his interview, he stated that the treatment and medication have been very helpful in managing the illness. Today, he feels healthy.

The defense attorney requested a change to a measure for young adults. Furthermore, a new psychiatric assessment and a new traffic and accident analysis assessment should be conducted. The existing assessments were insufficient. The court will decide on the requests after the completion of the evidence taking.

The District Court of Winterthur convicted a Swiss man in March 2022 of multiple attempted murder charges for an incident in October 2019 in Winterthur, in which he drove a stolen car and seriously injured a police officer. A second officer narrowly avoided a collision. The man was sentenced to 16 years and three months in prison and a stationary measure was ordered.
