The woman who has been on trial in Bern since Wednesday for the murder of her daughter should be acquitted in full. This is what her defense lawyer demanded on Thursday. In particular, he saw contradictions in the witness statements.
A 12-year-old boy at the time of the crime had told the police that he had seen his mother and daughter around the time of the crime. The boy's statements were contradictory, the defense lawyer explained.
In addition, the boy had a pronounced thirst for recognition. He had first said on the school bus that he had seen his mother and daughter even before he had made a statement to the police.
The defense lawyer was convinced that his client was innocent. She should therefore be acquitted and compensated a total of CHF 172,600 for the more than 800 days she spent in prison.
The defendant, now a 32-year-old woman, is accused of beating her eight-year-old daughter to death with a stone in a forest near her home on February 1, 2022.
