Driver dies after collision with rock face in Guttannen BE

A driver died at the scene of a serious accident in Guttannen BE on Sunday night. According to the police, the man left the road and collided with a rock face. The car caught fire.
The man was driving downhill from the Grimsel Pass towards Guttannen after 9 p.m. when, for reasons still unknown on Sunday, he left the road on a left-hand bend. He then collided with the crash barrier and subsequently with a rock face, as reported by the Bern cantonal police on Sunday.
The firefighters were able to extinguish the burning car. The identity of the deceased had not yet been established at the time and formal identification was still pending. The Bern cantonal police, under the direction of the Oberland regional public prosecutor's office, have launched an investigation to clarify the exact circumstances of the accident and are looking for witnesses.
The Grimselstrasse had to be completely closed for several hours due to the extensive rescue and accident work.
