Earth shakes several times on Thursday near Sörenberg LU

The earth shook near Sörenberg LU on Thursday morning with a magnitude of around 3.0 on the Richter scale. It was registered at 7.38 a.m. at a depth of 4.7 kilometers, according to the Swiss Seismological Service of ETH Zurich (SED).
One minute later, the SED also registered another quake near Sörenberg with a magnitude of 2.9 on the Richter scale. The SED had initially indicated this magnitude for the first earth tremor.
Between 08.13 and 08.50, the earth shook four more times near Sörenberg, albeit much weaker, with magnitudes of up to 2.4 on the Richter scale. An earthquake with a magnitude of 1.7 was also recorded near Brienz BE at 08.33.
Damage is generally not to be expected from earthquakes of this magnitude. The SED registers an average of three to four earthquakes per day in Switzerland and nearby neighboring countries, or 1,000 to 1,500 earthquakes per year. Around 10 to 20 earth tremors with magnitudes of around 2.5 and above are actually felt by the population each year.
