Election Result in the National Council Clearer Than in Some Predictions

The latest polls and predictions before the election day suggested a slight shift to the right. However, the result of the Swiss People's Party (SVP) was much higher than expected. The losses of the Green Party were also underestimated. Polls had been showing losses for the Greens and gains for the SVP for some time. The SP and the Centre were predicted to gain, which they did. The exact extent of the shift was uncertain, with the latest Sotomo poll predicting a 2.5% increase for the SVP, and the Tamedia poll predicting 3.1%. In the end, the SVP gained 3.0%, and the Green Party lost 3.8%, higher than the 2.7% predicted by the Tamedia poll.
