The Swiss Federal Council has proposed a new Foreign Policy Strategy for 2024-2027, which focuses on cooperation with European and other close partners, promotion of democracy and combating climate change. The strategy also calls for the strengthening of contributions to European security and the reconstruction of Ukraine, as well as new initiatives on climate change, biodiversity, pollution and sustainable energy. The Federal Council also emphasises that neutrality does not mean indifference, and that Switzerland stands for a cooperative foreign and security policy and solidarity with partners within the limits of neutrality. The strategy was developed in collaboration with various departments and will be presented to the cantons and the Foreign Policy Commissions of the Swiss Councils for consultation. The definitive adoption of the strategy is planned for early 2024.
