Erich Ettlin (Centre) and Monika Rüegger (SVP) Remain in Parliament

Monika Rüegger (SVP) was re-elected as the Obwaldner National Councilor on Sunday. Her only challenger, 26-year-old Nico Fankhauser (FDP), performed surprisingly well, receiving 737 votes more than Rüegger in the municipalities of Sarnen and Sachseln. Rüegger ultimately won the election with 8224 votes, and the voter turnout was 58.75%. Rüegger is a native of Engelberg and a trained metal construction planner. She was the first Obwaldner to be elected to the National Council in 2019. Erich Ettlin (Mitte) was also confirmed for another term in the Parliament without any opposition, and this will be his third term.
