The left should not simply exploit the rejection of the expansion of six highway sections in the referendum, write the newspapers of the ESH media group: "This no to cars is not a yes to the climate".
The debates triggered by the introduction of a 30 km/h speed limit in some cities, parking fees or the abolition of parking spaces show how attached the Swiss still are to their cars, write "Le Nouvelliste"," Arcinfo" and "La Côte" in a joint editorial. The article highlights a divide between men and women on this issue.
Many did not believe that there would be less congestion or simply did not feel affected by the vote. Others do not want Switzerland to be any bigger than it already is, they added. The three newspapers recalled that Valais had rejected both the expansion of the freeways and the climate law.
