On Wednesday, 20 people were allowed to return to their damaged homes in Schwanden GL after the devastating landslides at the end of August. With the help of helicopters and numerous helpers, the affected people were able to recover their belongings during a six-hour window. Around 20 of the 30 evacuees from the red exclusion zone in Schwanden were able to benefit from this time frame. Since the landslides at the end of August, which destroyed or damaged numerous buildings, the evacuees had not been able to return to their homes and had to rely on donations. For the recovery of personal items from the buildings, the evacuees received help from numerous foresters, fire brigade members, municipal employees and volunteers. In addition, a helicopter was used to access three properties on the slope that no longer had a road connection due to the disaster. Meanwhile, the slide in the "Wagenrunse" area continued to slow down. Therefore, more voluntary specialists are in the red exclusion zone to improve the monitoring of the slide, it was said. A further 60,000 cubic meters of debris are still threatened to slide down - twice as much as has already come down.
