Exhibition “Picasso on Paper” at the Kunstmuseum Basel

The Kunstmuseum Basel has received a gouache painting and a lithograph by Pablo Picasso as a donation. The two works will be exhibited for the first time as part of the "Picasso on Paper" exhibition.
The private collectors E. Regula and Hans Rudolf Baumgartner from Arlesheim BL donated the works to the Kunstmuseum in 2020, as announced by the museum on Friday. The paintings will be presented to the public together with a selection of prints by the Spanish artist from the museum's Kupferstichkabinett collection.
The gouache, created in 1943, combines two portraits on the front and back of one sheet: that of a young man and that of an old, bearded man. The lithograph from 1945 shows the portrait of a teenager, which bears a strong resemblance to the head of the young man in the gouache.
The exhibition runs until February 18, 2024.
