The Schaffhausen FDP could win a second seat on the Schaffhausen cantonal council in this Sunday's elections. Its candidate is currently ahead of the SP candidate and the GLP candidate in the race for a vacant seat.
After 16 of Schaffhausen's 26 municipalities have been counted, Marcel Montanari (FDP) is ahead of Bettina Looser (SP) and Daniel Spitz (GLP). If Montanari is elected, the FDP will regain its second seat on the five-member government council, which it lost to the SP in 2020. The result for the city of Schaffhausen, where around half of the electorate lives, is still pending.
The four current members of the cantonal government are considered uncontroversial and are likely to be re-elected according to the results so far. They are Martin Kessler (FDP), Cornelia Stamm Hurter (SVP), Patrick Strasser (SP) and Dino Tamagni (SVP). Walter Vogelsanger (SP) did not stand for re-election.
