The FDP welcomes the Federal Council's savings proposals as a "courageous first step". Nevertheless, the party is only half satisfied. However, it is opposed to the fact that the state government is also relying on higher revenues to stabilize federal finances. Instead, even more savings should be made.

Switzerland does not have a revenue problem, but a spending problem, the party wrote in a communiqué on Friday: "It is now urgent to spend less money, not to take more money out of the wallets of middle-class taxpayers. "

The communiqué was entitled "Stay economical, dear Federal Councillor!" There is more than enough potential for saving fuel. They accused the left and what they saw as the "very mobile, barely middle-class" center party of "crying out at every savings proposal".

The business umbrella organization Economiesuisse also welcomed the Federal Council's proposals. Because the Confederation has a spending problem, it is logical to tackle the expenditure side, it wrote on the X platform (formerly Twitter): "The economy demands that the debt brake is adhered to and the deficits are eliminated."
