In the debate on the army dispatch, the Free Democrats appealed to the responsibility of the other parties. Ultimately, Switzerland's freedom is at stake, said National Councillor Heinz Theiler from the canton of Schwyz.

According to Theiler, his parliamentary group fully supports the Federal Council's intention to strengthen Switzerland's defense capabilities. This sends a strong signal to other countries that Switzerland will not allow itself to be divided: "We will stand together and Switzerland will defend itself - with all the necessary means."

Theiler's Vaud party colleague Jacqueline de Quattro referred to the changed security situation in Europe: "The law of the jungle is back." As a result, the states of Europe have increased their army spending - even neutral Austria.

De Quattro also made it clear that the FDP wants to make savings in other areas to counter-finance the additional expenditure: there are numerous opportunities to make savings and become more efficient, and numerous subsidies that could and should be called into question.
