In 45 days, the Federal Costume Festival will start in Zurich: the major cultural event has already been announced - on Tuesday, the organizing committee and the city inaugurated a 13-metre-high maypole.
The maypole on Herkulesplatz on Zurich's Bahnhofstrasse symbolizes stability, joie de vivre and tradition, said OC President Max Binder. For the former SVP National Councillor, the traditional tree at the start of spring also symbolizes solidarity. This is shown by the three wreaths with ribbons in the colors of Switzerland, the canton of Zurich and all the cantons.
The Federal Costume Festival will be held in the city of Zurich from June 28 to 30 for the third time after 1939 and 1974. The organizing committee expects 100,000 visitors. With Münsterhof, Lindenplatz, Bürkliplatz and the main station hall, there are four festival sites, plus seven open stages.
The city is looking forward to lively traditions, lots of color, lots of joy and many festivities, said Mayor Corine Mauch (SP).
