In August, the Federal Council will comment on the ruling of the European Court of Human Rights in the case of the climate seniors. This was stated by Justice Minister Beat Jans on Monday during question time in the National Council. He did not give an initial assessment.

However, in response to a question from Christian Imark (SVP/SO), he defended the statement he had already made about the separation of powers. This was a prerequisite for a democratic constitutional state. The Federal Council was currently analyzing the ruling of the court in Strasbourg. No position is expected from the government before the summer break.

In April, the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) ruled in favor of the climate seniors' complaint against Switzerland. It found the neglect of climate protection measures to be a violation of human rights. The Council of States continued to reject climate measures and argued that the court had overridden democracy and disregarded it with the ruling.
