The Office of the Attorney General of Switzerland has filed a further indictment with the Federal Criminal Court for an ATM blast. It is directed against two men whom the Office of the Attorney General of Switzerland accuses of being involved in blowing up an ATM in Hettlingen ZH in 2022.
A 40-year-old Serbian man and a 22-year-old Swiss man are accused, as the Office of the Attorney General of Switzerland announced on Tuesday. The Federal Prosecutor's Office is accusing a third accused man of acts of favoritism. He is a 42-year-old Swiss national.
According to the indictment, the 40-year-old Serbian and the 22-year-old accused, together with at least two other accomplices, are alleged to have planted two explosive charges at an ATM in Hettlingen on December 22, 2022 and detonated them.
As one of the two charges did not detonate completely and the explosion of the other was not strong enough, the suspects were unable to gain access to the safe. However, the detonations caused property damage of around CHF 50,000. The charges include aggravated damage to property and endangering with explosives and toxic gases with criminal intent.
The Serbian was arrested in Croatia and extradited to Switzerland. He has been serving an early sentence since the beginning of 2024. The 22-year-old defendant was in custody from December 2022 to June 2023.
The Office of the Attorney General of Switzerland is always responsible for attacks on ATMs when explosives are used. According to its statement, it is currently conducting criminal proceedings in around one hundred cases. Just last week, it announced that it had brought charges against five suspected ATM blasters.
