The Office of the Attorney General of Switzerland has discontinued the criminal proceedings in connection with the emissions manipulation by the German car manufacturer VW. This was announced on Thursday.

According to the Office of the Attorney General of Germany (OAG), a fine imposed on Volkswagen (VW) AG by the Braunschweig public prosecutor's office in Germany makes it impossible for the Office of the Attorney General in Switzerland to prosecute VW again on the basis of the transnational ban on double prosecution and double jeopardy.

The suspicion against Amag Import AG and its responsible bodies and employees was also not substantiated. For this reason, the Office of the Attorney General of Switzerland has also discontinued the criminal proceedings against these suspects, it added.

The discontinuation order is not yet legally binding.
