A fire broke out at a landfill in Satigny GE on Friday night. No one was injured, but the smoke was visible from far away in the whole of the Canton of Geneva and in the French neighbourhood. Around 8000 cubic metres of waste were burning. The fire was under control by 6.30am, according to the Geneva Fire Service spokesperson Nicolas Millot. The firefighters had to remove the pile of wood waste and wood chips to completely extinguish the fire, which was expected to take two days. At the peak of the fire, around 100 firefighters were on the scene. The smoke was visible from far away, leading to hundreds of phone calls.
