A fire in a garage near Geneva Airport disrupted air, road and rail traffic on Tuesday afternoon. The fire broke out at around 4 p.m. in Vernier GE. The fire was still not under control after 18:00.

According to SBB, train services on the Geneva-Bellegarde-sur-Valserine line were interrupted. Take-offs at Geneva Airport were also stopped for ten minutes due to the risk of explosion, as Ignace Jeannerat, spokesman for Geneva Airport, explained. Drivers should avoid the Route de Meyrin near the airport, he said.

Six firefighters were deployed to fight the fire in Vernier, according to the spokesperson for the fire and rescue service (SIS).
