The temporarily closure of the troubled 5-star hotel "Waldhaus Flims" in the Swiss canton of Graubünden has shaken the local community. The municipality of Flims has offered to support the hotel management and staff, but has ruled out any financial involvement. The closure is regrettable for the entire workforce, the tourism sector and Flims as a location. The responsibility now lies with the US investment firm Z Capital Partners, which owns the hotel. The municipality is aiming to find a long-term solution for the only 5-star hotel in the Flims-Laax-Falera destination, but this will require the owners to be open to dialogue and have an honest intention to find a good solution for all involved. The hotel has a history of financial difficulties, and the current decrease in occupancy and increase in energy and maintenance costs has led to the consultation process with the employees. As of August 1st, the hotel will be closed, but it is unclear how long it will remain closed.
