Fondue evening ends with burns at Zurich University Hospital

While preparing a fondue, the fondue rechaud exploded in an apartment in Chur on Saturday evening. Several people suffered burn injuries and two were taken to Zurich University Hospital.
According to a statement from the cantonal police on Monday, the incident occurred after liquid methylated spirits had been refilled. Emergency services and police found several people in an apartment with various degrees of burn injuries.
One person was taken directly to Zurich University Hospital by the Chur ambulance, a second person was initially taken to Graubünden Cantonal Hospital by the Chur ambulance and later also taken to Zurich University Hospital. The public prosecutor's office of the canton of Graubünden and the Graubünden cantonal police are investigating the cause of the accident.
