Furka car transport remains temporarily closed due to fire

The Furka car transport service from Oberwald VS to Realp UR has been suspended until further notice after a truck caught fire on Tuesday. The cause of the fire is still unknown.
The cause of the fire is still the subject of ongoing investigations, Christoph Kupper, Head of the Railways and Ships Division of the Swiss Transportation Safety Investigation Board (Sust), told the Keystone-SDA news agency on Wednesday.
The Matterhorn Gotthard Railway media office has announced that the car transport service will remain closed until further notice. According to the media office, however, passenger transportation is back in operation. No statement can yet be made regarding the extent of the damage.
According to Gusti Planzer, media spokesman for the Uri cantonal police, the truck was a total loss. However, the truck was only carrying a "small residual load".
On Tuesday afternoon, a truck caught fire while driving from Oberwald towards Realp. One person was injured and taken to hospital. The remaining people were evacuated.
