US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has once again called for a two-state solution in the Middle East at the World Economic Forum in Davos.
Many Arab and Muslim countries have recently changed their attitude towards Israel and are now interested in stable relations, he said in the Swiss ski resort on Wednesday. However, a lasting solution for the region includes the vision of a Palestinian state. Otherwise, Israel would not have any real security.
"Of course, this requires very difficult and challenging decisions," said Blinken. The USA does not claim to make these decisions for others. Israel must decide in which direction it wants to develop. The region is at a geostrategic turning point. "And when you reach a turning point, you have to make difficult decisions," said Blinken. Of course, such a development is not possible overnight, but it must be initiated as quickly as possible.
Saudi Arabian Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan had previously spoken out in favor of the creation of a Palestinian state at the World Economic Forum. When asked whether his country would also recognize Israel as part of such a comprehensive agreement, he replied: "Certainly".
