As part of a transport test, the Swiss Air Force flew a Cougar helicopter from Dübendorf ZH to Emmen LU on Wednesday. The German Air Force assisted in the operation.

The test is intended to provide air force maintenance personnel with important knowledge to enable them to quickly transport a helicopter over long distances in an emergency, as army spokeswoman Delphine Schwab-Allemand told the Keystone-SDA news agency on request. The aim is to develop skills for disaster relief and military peacebuilding missions abroad.

After the test was launched on August 22, the helicopter was dismantled at the Dübendorf military airfield and loaded onto a German Air Force transport aircraft on Tuesday. According to Schwab-Allemand, Switzerland does not have a transport aircraft of the same size as the A400M.

According to the media spokesperson, the exercise builds on the many years of cooperation between the two air forces. It also serves the goal of strengthening their own defense capabilities through international cooperation. The test will continue until August 30.
