Gotthard Tunnel Open Again from Friday Evening

The Gotthardstrassentunnel, which was closed on Sunday due to a damaged ceiling, will be reopened for traffic on Friday at 8pm. According to the Swiss Federal Roads Office (Astra), the repair and testing works will be completed by then. For safety reasons, the speed limit in the 17 kilometer long tunnel between Göschenen UR and Airolo TI will be reduced to 60 km/h instead of 80 km/h during the first phase. The tunnel was closed on Sunday afternoon after concrete parts fell from the ceiling onto the road. Fortunately, no one was injured.
