One day after the cantonal elections in Uri, it is still largely unclear who will run in the second round of voting on April 21. SP councillor Dimitri Moretti has so far officially announced his candidacy.
The cantonal councillor, who has been in office since 2016, received 6140 votes on the election Sunday of March 3, missing the absolute majority by 826 votes. He came seventh out of the 12 candidates. "We trust that the conservative parties will maintain concordance and continue to recognize the SP's claim to a seat in the government," the cantonal party announced on Sunday evening.
At the request of the Keystone-SDA news agency, FDP councillor Georg Simmen from Realp has also announced his interest in a second round of voting. However, it is not yet clear whether he or fellow candidate Petra Muheim will run again. The party will make this decision at a party meeting on March 8. Simmen came eighth on Sunday with 6085 votes, while Muheim came ninth with 4766 votes.
On the centrist side, the 2nd ballot on 7 March will be discussed. Center candidate Hermann Epp achieved the sixth best result with 6882. The mayor of Silenen told Keystone-SDA that he would first have to discuss his candidacy with his family and the party leadership. Epp's fellow candidate Céline Huber had already made it into the government on election Sunday with 8158 votes.
SVP candidate Hansueli Gisler stated that he had the desire and motivation for a second ballot. However, a renewed candidacy would first have to be clarified within the party. The decisions of the center and the FDP would play a role in the decision. Gisler achieved 2677 votes. The independent Sämi Gisler from Bürglen also wants to wait for the decisions of the other parties, as he said. He received 2417 votes.
It is still unclear how the GLP candidate Luzia Gisler will fare. She won 3996 votes on Sunday. The cantonal party's website states that it wants to take the time to analyze the current situation and examine strategic partnerships. What is certain, however, is that Gisler was able to win a seat on the cantonal council for the GLP in the municipality of Bürglen.
