On Tuesday, the Graubünden government reaffirmed its decision to kill the Fuorn pack in the Swiss National Park. Animal and environmental organizations had previously collected over 37,000 signatures against the plan. 13 of a total of up to 17 wolves are already dead.

A month and a half ago, the Wolf Switzerland group, WWF, Pro Natura and Bird Life Switzerland submitted a petition for the preservation of the national park pack. On Tuesday, the Graubünden government responded to the petition. It reiterated that the wolf pack in question is not a pure national park pack and is mostly outside the park. It would therefore not receive any special treatment.

As of Monday, 13 wolves of the pack had already been shot, said the responsible councillor Carmelia Maissen (center) on request. The pack comprises an estimated 15 to 17 animals.

After two cattle were killed, the culling of the entire Fuorn herd was approved by the federal government. The government told the media in Chur that the petition's request could therefore not be granted.
