On October 22nd, Neuchâtel will hold elections for the Swiss Federal Assembly. In the Council of States, the current incumbents Philippe Bauer (FDP) and Céline Vara (Greens) will face off against each other in a duel between the Greens and the SP for the seat. In the National Council, the seat of Denis de la Reussille, the only representative of the Workers' Party under the Federal Palace, is most at risk. Thirteen candidates, including five women, are vying for one of the two Neuchâtel seats in the Council of States. The proportional voting system in Neuchâtel ensures that the FDP will retain its seat. On the left side, the Social Democratic National Councilor Baptiste Hurni is running for the SP ticket, which is completed by Théo Huguenin-Elie, Executive Councilor of La Chaux-de-Fonds. The SP is hoping to regain the seat they lost to the Greens four years ago. The Greens are fielding incumbent Céline Vara from Cressier, who is running alongside her party colleague Fabien Fivaz from La Chaux-de-Fonds, who is also running for the National Council. In the National Council, a record number of 59 people, including 29 women, are running on 16 lists for one of the four Neuchâtel seats. The incumbents Damien Cottier (FDP), Fabien Fivaz (Greens), Baptiste Hurni (SP) and Denis de la Reussille (POP) are all running again. The POP seat is most at risk, but the alliance with the SP, the Greens and SolidaritéS gives them a good chance of retaining it. On the right side, the FDP and the SVP have not formed an alliance, which could have given the SVP a good chance of regaining the seat they lost four years ago. The Greens Liberals have formed an alliance with the Centre and the EVP, which could be decisive in winning a seat.
