Green Party Loses Two National Council Seats in Canton of Zurich

The Green Party in the canton of Zurich has suffered significant losses in the national elections according to the latest projections, and is likely to lose two seats. The Liberal Green Party (GLP) and the Free Democratic Party (FDP) are each projected to lose one seat. The centre is expected to gain two seats. According to the projections, the Swiss People's Party (SVP) and the Social Democratic Party (SP) are each expected to gain one seat. The Zurich EDU, which previously had no seat in the National Council, could also gain a seat. According to the projections, the two incumbent National Councilors from the Green Party, Meret Schneider and Katharina Prelicz-Huber, are unlikely to be re-elected. For the GLP, Judith Bellaiche is likely to be the one to lose her seat. In terms of voter share, there have been shifts compared to the first projection. The centre is the biggest winner, with an expected increase of 3.1 percentage points to 9.1 percent. The SVP is expected to gain 2.4 percentage points to 29.1 percent. The biggest losses are expected to be suffered by the Green Party (-5.3 percentage points) and the GLP (-1.4 percentage points).
