The Greens have described the measures presented by the Federal Council on Friday as a "right-wing conservative austerity package". The right-wing government majority wants to "set climate and environmental protection back by years".
The planned savings measures of almost one billion in climate and environmental protection account for a quarter of the entire reduction program, the Greens announced. This would make public transport more expensive, cancel night train connections and forgo building renovations.
The Federal Council's proposal shows how it wants to take Switzerland back to a time when climate and environmental protection were "just pipe dreams". The Greens announced that they would fight this reduction and the regression in supplementary childcare, AHV, education and research.
