The Swiss Hail Insurance Company is expecting claims of CHF 38.6 million for the current year. This represents an increase of 7.8 million or around 25 percent compared to the previous year.
52.8 percent of the current year's claims are due to hail damage, 21.9 percent to damage caused by frost. This was announced by the company, which calls itself Schweizer Hagel for short, on Wednesday.
It also insures damage caused by other events such as storms and floods and speaks of rather high losses in Switzerland. It expects just over 7,600 claims (2023: 5,904) by the end of this year
Swiss Hail also insures agricultural crops in neighboring Italy and France. The losses there were lower than in Switzerland. The company therefore speaks of an "average to good" claims year overall.
In 2024, Schweizer Hagel insured agricultural crops worth around CHF 4.1 billion in all three countries. Those in Switzerland have a value of around 2.1 billion francs, as was reported on request.
