US Democratic voters living in Switzerland are hoping to see the first woman in the US presidency. Vice President Kamala Harris has an "excellent chance" of becoming the first female president of the United States, Liz Voss, president of the party's Basel foreign section, told the Keystone-SDA news agency on Monday in response to an inquiry.

"Kamala Harris is a woman with black and Indian roots. This cultural overlap affects many voters," said the representative of the so-called Democrats Abroad. Voss believes that voters will not allow Republican Donald Trump to rule the country again.

On Sunday, 81-year-old US President Joe Biden announced his decision not to run for a second term in the presidential elections in November for health reasons. At the same time, he expressed his support for Harris. So far, no other Democratic candidate has officially declared their ambitions.

Voss is one of 22 delegates from the Democratic Party Committee Abroad who will be attending the Democratic convention in Chicago in mid-August. Personally, Voss said she will support the candidate who supports gun control, environmental protection and women's abortion rights. "These are issues that are important to Democrats Abroad members."

Voss had words of praise for Joe Biden. "In all the years that Joe Biden has served his country as Senator, Vice President and finally as President, he has pursued historic policies. And he has made the world a safer place by strengthening US ties with democratic countries."
