Helicopter and dogs search for skiers after avalanche in Valais

An avalanche broke loose in an off-piste area in the Les Crosets ski area in the municipality of Val-d'Illiez VS at around 12.20 pm. Helicopters and a rescue team with dogs searched for possible skiers on Tuesday afternoon.

"The search is still ongoing," said Cynthia Zermatten, spokeswoman for the Valais cantonal police, on Tuesday afternoon at the request of the Keystone-SDA news agency. She was confirming a report from "20 Minuten".

The recent snowfall in the Alps has increased the risk of avalanches. According to the bulletin from the Institute for Snow and Avalanche Research (SLF), the risk along the entire Rhone Valley and on both slopes was reclassified as "high" on Tuesday.
