On Saturday afternoon, several firefighting helicopters were deployed to the forest fire area above Bitsch in the Valais region of Switzerland due to smoke development. According to the police, the situation was brought under control by late afternoon and there were no damages. At 2:20 pm, the Walliser Kantonspolizei received a report of smoke in the forest fire area, confirmed by a spokesperson for the news agency Keystone-SDA. On July 17th, a devastating forest fire broke out above Bitsch in the Upper Valais, for which Super-Puma helicopters of the Swiss Army were also used to extinguish it. Three weeks later, on August 4th, the transition from special to normal situation was decided. Isolated embers had remained. The forest fire affected an area of 132 hectares, of which about 35 hectares were rocky terrain. About three quarters of the trees in the affected forest area burned, mainly firs.nnnnnnnn
