Historic control plate auction for the European Championship round of 16 qualification

On the occasion of the European Football Championship, the Zurich Road Traffic Office is auctioning off "ZH 24". It is the lowest number on a Zurich license plate in the entire history of the auction. It is being auctioned on the occasion of Switzerland's qualification for the European Championship round of 16.
The historic auction was also a "direct hit for the Zurich treasury", announced the media office of the Zurich Security Directorate on Monday evening. The proceeds will benefit the entire population of Zurich. The auction starts next Thursday (June 27) and ends just under a week later on Wednesday (July 3).
"After great games in the group stage, the European Championship adventure continues for the Swiss national football team and all their fans with the round of 16," said Councillor Mario Fehr, whose security directorate includes the Road Traffic Office.
"Football summer full of emotions"
"ZH 24" is representative of a "football summer full of emotions". He was looking forward to the Swiss national team's next match and hoped that the European Championship would last as long as possible for them, Fehr continued.
Until now, "ZH 50" was the lowest car license plate in the canton of Zurich. It was auctioned off last August for 202,000 francs. Five-digit and lower license plates are only available in the canton of Zurich via the Road Traffic Office's weekly license plate auction. The most expensive to date was the "ZH 100" license plate (226,000 francs in 2022).
In each of the last two years, the Road Traffic Office has generated around 5 million francs from the license plate auction, the press release continued. All proceeds flow into the canton's general treasury and thus benefit the entire population of Zurich.
