On the anniversary of the terrorist attack on Israel by the Islamist group Hamas, hundreds of people gathered in Zurich on Monday evening for a commemorative event. They commemorated the victims and hostages with candles and Israeli flags on Ticino Square.

The second part took place in the community center of the Israelitische Cultusgemeinde Zürich (ICZ). The program included speeches by ICZ President Jacques Lande, National Councillor Alfred Heer (SVP) and Councillor of States Daniel Jositsch (SP). According to the organizers, around 600 people were expected to attend.

The commemorative event was organized by the Swiss-Israeli Association, the Swiss Israel Works Association and the Swiss Federation of Jewish Communities.

On October 7, 2023, terrorists from Hamas and other extremist groups killed over 1,200 people in Israel. This was the trigger for the Gaza war, in which, according to the Hamas-controlled health authority, around 42,000 Palestinians have been killed so far, including many children and young people.
