After a storm in La Chaux-de-Fonds that left one dead and around 40 injured, clean-up efforts resumed on Tuesday. According to insurers, the damage to buildings and vehicles is significant, though the full extent is yet to be determined. The night passed without incident, according to Daniel Favre, spokesperson for the Neuchâtel police, and main roads were open. However, train connections to Le Locle and Neuchâtel were still interrupted, and around 200 households were without power. Over 400 damage reports were received by Mobiliar within a few hours, with the insurer estimating costs of over one million francs. The Helvetia insurance company estimated costs in the low millions, while the Axa estimated a first damage assessment later in the day. The Generali insurance company expects to have a better estimate of the damage by next week. The Allianz Suisse estimated around 1500 affected vehicles and 500 property damages in La Chaux-de-Fonds, as well as 1000 more cases in the Lausanne region and the Valais, including hail damage to cars. Damage reports range from minor, such as roof tiles on vehicles, to total destruction from falling trees, as well as damage to furniture and inventory.
