The Swiss State Prosecutor has launched an investigation into a person suspected of causing a fire in an industrial hall in Vétroz VS at the beginning of July. The fire is believed to have been caused by discarded cigarette butts. The investigation is ongoing and the suspect is presumed innocent. Evidence collected at the scene includes three cigarette butts near quads and snowmobiles, from where the fire is believed to have started. Other possible causes of the fire, such as water infiltration and electrical work, are also mentioned in the investigation file. The fire, which broke out in the late afternoon of 6 July, was eventually brought under control by over 140 firefighters the following morning. No people were injured, but the fire caused a large amount of smoke and a high level of pollutants from burnt solar panels. As a result, a ban on grazing and harvesting of fruit, vegetables, fodder and arable crops was imposed in the region for several days. Additionally, the canton advised against swimming in the affected area.nnnn
