According to its own statements, Iran informed the USA about its missile strikes before and after the major attack on Israel.

"We have sent clear messages to the Americans that the decision (...) to punish the Zionist regime was final and decisive," Foreign Minister Hussein Amirabdollahian said in New York on Thursday, according to the state news agency Irna.

On Sunday night, Iran sent a further message to the United States via diplomatic channels, "mentioning that we are not seeking an escalation of tensions in the region," the minister continued.

According to Irna, the messages were transmitted via the Swiss embassy in Tehran. Switzerland represents US interests in Iran, and the two countries have had no diplomatic relations for more than 44 years.

The communications director of the US government's National Security Council, John Kirby, dismissed reports of warnings from Iran on Monday. "The United States has not received intelligence from Iran or anyone else that indicated a specific time, specific targets or types of weapons they would launch," he said.

On Sunday night, Iran attacked Israel with more than 300 drones, cruise missiles and rockets. The background to this was a suspected Israeli attack on the Iranian embassy compound in the Syrian capital Damascus, in which two generals of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards were killed at the beginning of April.
