Jans supports the federal police after incident in the Federal Palace

Parliamentary business was not restricted at any time. Police Minister Beat Jans commented on the incident in the Federal Palace on Wednesday.
"The parliamentarians simply had to take a different staircase, so they could have followed the police's instructions," Beat Jans, head of the Federal Department of Justice and Police (FDJP), told the Keystone-SDA news agency on the sidelines of a ministerial meeting in Luxembourg on Thursday.
He would like to thank the security forces for their work. Due to the upcoming peace conference on the Bürgenstock, they are "extremely" challenged.
"Dispositive was necessary"
Ruslan Stefanchuk, President of the Ukrainian Parliament, visited the Federal Palace on Wednesday. The federal police blocked off a staircase for a photo opportunity.
When SVP parliamentary group leader Thomas Aeschi wanted to use these stairs, a scuffle broke out between him and the police. Aeschi was bothered by the fact that foreign state visits had priority during the session, he wrote on the X portal. Aeschi received both support and criticism after the incident.
"When someone comes from Ukraine, from a country at war, the level of security is high and that was now part of what I consider to be the necessary dispositive," continued Federal Councillor Jans. "If it had really hindered parliamentary business, we could have the discussion."
