Juso call for a solidarity-based healthcare system with a single health insurance fund

The delegates of Juso Switzerland adopted a position paper for a solidary healthcare system in Giubiasco TI on Saturday. The young party is also calling for the abolition of the deadline solution and the removal of abortion from the penal code.
Instead of helping people to lead a healthy and fulfilling life, the focus of the current healthcare system is on getting people back to work as quickly and cheaply as possible, the young socialists said. Staff in the healthcare system and patients are suffering as a result, while the pharmaceutical industry, health insurance companies and private hospitals are profiting.
In their position paper, the Young Socialists call for a single state health insurance fund, financed by progressive taxes instead of per capita premiums, as well as the "nationalization and democratization of the pharmaceutical industry", as stated in a press release.
As the Juso delegates' meeting this year coincided with Safe Abortion Day, the young party reiterated the urgency of defending the right to abortion.
In Giubiasco, the delegates also adopted a resolution calling for the abolition of the 12-week period. Abortion should also be removed from the penal code and the right to abortion should be enshrined in the constitution.
