Large crowd at the Federal Supreme Court ahead of women’s retirement age decision

Around 200 people gathered outside the Federal Supreme Court in Lausanne on Thursday morning. They were eagerly awaiting the Federal Supreme Court's ruling on a possible repeat of the ballot to raise the retirement age for women.
Among those in attendance were around 80 people who queued to enter the Federal Court building. "We are excited about the decision and confident in our arguments. We want to take back the lost pension year for women and restore confidence in democracy," Lisa Mazzone, president of the Swiss Green Party, told the Keystone-SDA news agency.
Several sympathizers also gradually gathered on the forecourt and steps of the Federal Court. Representatives of the referendum committee and the complainants were on site, accompanied by political and feminist supporters and activists.
The atmosphere was peaceful. Slogans such as "No to AHV 21" and "Let's increase pensions, not the retirement age" could be read on banners hung at the foot of the steps of the Federal Palace.
From 10 a.m., the Federal Supreme Court will deliberate in public on a repeat of the referendum on raising the retirement age for women. The electorate had narrowly approved this on September 25, 2022. According to the complaint, this was based on incorrect figures. If the complaints are accepted, the population would be called to the polls again - an unprecedented process in the history of Switzerland.
