The internationally renowned artist Saype began creating a large work of art in Fribourg's lower town on Friday. The completely biodegradable fresco will be inaugurated on August 16. An exhibition dedicated to the artist will be on display at the same time.
The work of art, which will be created on the Neigles field, can be admired until mid-September, depending on the growth of the grass. Although it is ephemeral, the work will leave a lasting mark on the cultural heritage, writes Fribourg Tourism in a press release. Saype's visit is part of the celebrations to mark Fribourg Tourism's 125th anniversary this year.
The huge fresco can be admired from several locations in the city of Fribourg, such as the Poya Bridge or the tower of St. Nicholas Cathedral. In this Fribourg work, Saype attempts to play with the special features of the city and Switzerland.
The artist is the inventor of environmentally friendly chalk and charcoal painting and is considered a pioneer of a movement that combines street art and land art.
