By the end of the year, a sales outlet for cannabis for "enjoyment purposes" will be opened in Lausanne. This marks the start of a concrete phase of the pilot project for the regulated sale of cannabis. In the city center, participants in a study can purchase controlled cannabis products. 200 people have so far signed up to take part in the project. However, the goal is to have a test group of at least 1200 people, as was announced at a media conference by the authorities on Tuesday in Lausanne. The Swiss Federal Office of Public Health has given the green light to the CANN-L project in the capital of the canton of Vaud in March of this year. The aim of the experiment is to assess the impact of a non-profit sale on the behavior of consumers and its influence on the illegal market. In Switzerland, the 2021 enactment of an amendment to the Federal Act on Narcotics has paved the way for strictly controlled pilot trials. In 2023, Basel-Stadt and later Zurich began the controlled sale of cannabis in pharmacies. Last week, the Canton of Geneva announced that its Cannabinothèque will open in Vernier in December.
