Rail services between Zurich and Stuttgart and Zurich and Munich are still restricted. Deutsche Bahn has not yet been able to remedy the consequences of the weekend's snow chaos.
The line from Zurich via St. Margrethen SG to Munich is interrupted, as SBB announced on X on Wednesday. The reason for this is the condition of the tracks due to the weather.
In order for trains to be able to run again, the tracks and all emergency routes must be completely cleared of snow and ice, damaged infrastructure must be repaired and trains must be made roadworthy again, as Deutsche Bahn announced on Wednesday at the request of the Keystone-SDA news agency. It added that 1500 emergency personnel were working under high pressure around the clock.
According to Deutsche Bahn, the route between Zurich and Munich should be reopened by Thursday.
Rail services between Zurich and Stuttgart are also still restricted. This will remain the case until at least 10.45 p.m., SBB wrote on X. According to Deutsche Bahn, there is an S-Bahn connection between Singen in Germany and Schaffhausen to bridge the gap.
The heavy snowfall on Friday and during the night into Saturday caused some traffic problems. Rail traffic also came to a standstill in many places in Switzerland, but largely returned to normal after the weekend.
