Two days before the conclusion of the major classical music event, the Lucerne Festival has drawn a "very positive balance". The 26 major symphony concerts were 90 percent full, it announced on Friday.
The festival estimated its overall occupancy rate at 84 percent. It began on August 13 and will end on Sunday with a performance of Arnold Schönberg's "Gurre-Lieder" with 270 participants.
According to the press release, 158 events were on the program over the 34 days of the festival, which were attended by 81,000 people. 13 of the 65 paid events were sold out. There were also free events, such as the street music festival, events before and after concerts and short concerts with commentary.
This year's festival motto was "Curiosity". There were a total of 20 world premieres, 15 of which were performed as part of the Lucerne Festival Academy, which celebrated its 20th anniversary. Young talents can attend composition and conducting seminars there and rehearse contemporary works.
The center of the festival was the KKL Lucerne. However, there were also performances at other venues.
