The majority of the Swiss population has already reached retirement age in the case of inheritance. According to a study by AXA Insurance, only one in seven people make use of inheritance allowances. The "Axa Vorsorgestudie 2023" has revealed that the amount of inherited wealth in Switzerland last year was 88 billion francs. However, the inheritance was clearly in favor of the older heirs. According to the survey published on Tuesday, only about one in ten people living in Switzerland under the age of 60 have already inherited due to a death. In many cases, an inheritance advance or a gift to the younger generation can be useful. According to a survey, only one in seven people, or around 15 percent, reported having received an inheritance advance. Axa explains the low numbers by saying that the topic of inheritance is not discussed enough. According to their research, over a third of all families have never discussed the topic of inheritance and another quarter have only discussed it "on the sidelines". The experts at Axa therefore recommend to start the conversation "early and openly". The online survey was conducted between the end of March and the beginning of April 2023 with over 1000 people aged between 18 and 65.
