Man with two dogs runs under a train in Aarberg BE

A 63-year-old man traveling with two dogs was hit by a train in Aarberg in the canton of Bern on Sunday morning. The man and the dogs were killed.

According to initial findings by the police, the 63-year-old Swiss man was walking his dogs along a forest path near the tracks shortly before 6.30 am. It is not yet clear why the group came under the train. Despite immediately applying the brakes, the train driver was unable to prevent the collision.

The victim is a man from the canton of Bern, as the Bernese Jura-Seeland regional public prosecutor's office and the Bernese cantonal police announced on Monday. The police have launched an investigation into the accident.

The train's passengers were able to continue their journey on replacement buses.
